Melting Equipment
Iron Furnace - Can be used to melt up to 1400 pounds of virgin pig iron and virgin scrap steel.  Every heat of metal is tested with our in-house spectrometer to ensure the correct chemistry is obtained.
Aluminum Furnace - Southern Cast Products is proud to produce superior quality aluminum with greatly reduced porosity.  A Unithem Furnace Corporation unit is used in the melting of our aluminum products.  An upgraded degassing unit was recently purchased, increasing the quality of our aluminum castings.
Aluminum Permanent Mold Casting -   We can produce low cost castings with uniform wall thickness for large orders through the use of permanent molds.  Parts can be as thin as 1/8 inch, have a dimensional precision of 0.01-0.05, and have an excellent surface finish with enhanced mechanical properties.  We use one 12 X 18, three self-pour 18 X 24-20s, and one 30 X 30 Stahl permanent molding machines for pouring aluminum.

 

Iron Processes
Molding - A no-bake sand is used in our molds, allowing for high dimensional accuracy, good hot strength, and high resistance to mold-related defects.  This also allows for the use of thinner sections in our castings.
Cores - Our use of no-bake sand also allows for the quick production of cores without the use of curing ovens.  As soon as the molding is completed, cores are added and the metal can be directly poured.
Heat Treatment - Residual stress in iron is relieved and the parts are annealed through the use of two separate box furnaces.  Our products are typically heat treated up to 1610 degrees Fahrenheit.
Finishing - Once the heat treatment is done, the part is peened using a Wheelabrator Corporation Sand Blaster with a 72" swing table.  Flash is eliminated at one of our four grinding stations so the part will be ready for shipping.

Aluminum Processing
Degassing Rotoflux Unit - Dry nitrogen is used to flush dissolved hydrogen back into the atmosphere while flux is added to the melt, greatly reducing porosity in our aluminum castings.  Cutting edge technology is used to produce very high quality aluminum castings.
Heat Treatment - Our aluminum products are heat treated to a T6 condition (solution heat-treated and artificially aged).  This gives high quality properties to the aluminum castings.  We pride ourselves on having modern equipment for excellent heat treatments.
